JOCK ITCH RASH SKIN
Firstly, the silk fabric allows the skin to breathe, reducing moisture and temperature traps that encourage the growth of yeasts and fungi. The DermaSilk fabric fulfils all the requirements for helping to cope with Jock Itch. Antifungal powders or sprays may be used once a day to prevent infection.Allow the groin to dry completely after showering before covering with clothes.Avoid sharing clothing and towels or washcloths.Jock Itch Prevention To prevent jock itch from occurring or re-occurring, several measures may be taken Steroids should not be used in the groin alone without consulting a doctor since steroids alone can make the rash of jock itch much worse. If the rash is very red and itchy, especially if it has blisters at the edge, a topical steroid such as hydrocortisone may also be applied. Jock itch is normally treated with topical creams or ointments since the fungus only affects the top layer of skin. The skin within the border turns a reddish-brown and loses much of its scale. The advancing edge is usually scaly and very easily distinguished from normal skin. The advancing edge is redder and more raised than areas that have been infected longer. If the rash advances, it usually advances down the inner thigh. The rash of jock itch starts in the groin fold usually on both sides. Therefore, wearing sweaty, wet clothing in the summer time or wearing several layers of clothing in the wintertime causes an increased incidence of jock itch. (Note: The rash is not on the penis.) Jock itch is also. The warm, moist environment is the perfect place for the fungus to grow and anything that enhances that environment puts the person at risk of getting jock itch. Jock itch is a fungus that causes a pink, scaly, itchy rash on the inner thighs, groin, and scrotum.

The same creams are used to treat athlete's foot and fungal groin infection (tinea cruris). The fungi from athlete's foot may spread to the groin. In a typical case of athlete's foot, the skin between the toes is itchy and flaky - especially between the outer two toes. Athlete's foot is a common fungal infection of the toes. Check for athlete's foot (tinea pedis) and treat it if you have it.Fungi may multiply in flakes of skin in unwashed underwear. Its a fungal infection that grows in warm, damp areas. (A hairdryer is useful if you have hairy groins.) Jock itch is an itchy rash that happens in your groin (crotch). The damp groin is then an ideal site for fungal germs (fungi) to multiply. It is easy to put on underwear when your groin is not quite dry. Drying is perhaps the most important point. Wash your groin daily then dry thoroughly.Preventing recurring fungal groin infection Photographs showing the typical appearance of fungal groin infection (tinea cruris) and showing how it is treated with an antifungal cream until it is almost gone are available in our Further Reading and References section, below. If you have had jock itch in the past, you may recognize the symptoms. You can read more about treatments for fungal infections in the separate leaflet called Antifungal Medicines. Jock itch is annoying, but it usually is not serious. However, the steroid does not kill the fungus and so a steroid cream alone should not be used.Īn antifungal medicine taken by mouth is sometimes prescribed if the infection is widespread or severe - for example, terbinafine, griseofulvin, or itraconazole tablets. The steroid reduces inflammation and may ease itch and redness quickly. You may need to continue with an antifungal cream alone for a time afterwards. This would normally be used for no more than seven days. For skin that is particularly inflamed, your doctor may prescribe an antifungal cream combined with a mild steroid cream. This varies between the different creams, so read the instructions carefully. Apply the cream to the surrounding 4-6 cm of normal skin in addition to the rash. These modern creams are good at clearing fungal skin infections. There are various types and brands - for example, terbinafine, clotrimazole, econazole, ketoconazole and miconazole. You can buy an antifungal cream from pharmacies, or obtain one on prescription.
